Intelligence Online

Axia's Education Services team has worked in close partnership with the Galileo Educational Network to develop and implement an online professional development centre for teachers.

The centre, known as IO (Intelligence Online), provides K-12 teachers with the knowledge, tools and support necessary to integrate teaching, learning and technology into their day-to-day teaching practice.

The goal of IO is to help teachers develop and refine environments where their students learn with technology, as opposed to learning about technology.

Who benefits from IO?

The challenge at the grassroots level is to help teachers understand the role that technology can play in creating meaningful, engaging learning experiences for students and, by so doing, have a significant impact on student performance.

IO was created specifically to meet this challenge. Four groups have a vested interest in impacting students through IO: teachers, principals, superintendents and government officials.

From a teacher’s perspective, IO:

  • Is a proven process for creating meaningful, engaging learning experiences for students.
  • Creates a high level of support for teachers wishing to move from their current ways of working to new ways of working.
  • Meets their needs for professional development focused on integrating technology into their everyday work.

From a principal’s perspective, IO:

  • Shifts teacher practice and engages teachers and learners more directly in a focused attempt to improve learning outcomes.
  • Makes efficient use of money spent on technology and professional development for best practice teaching.
  • For early adopters, could ensure that the school leads best practice development activities for integrating technology across the curriculum.

From a superintendent’s perspective, IO:

  • Has a sustainable impact on teachers and students.
  • Justifies district-wide expenditures and allocation of resources.
  • Rationalizes the role of technology across the curriculum.

FROM A GOVERNMENT'S PERSPECTIVE, IO:

  • Works and has proven benefits.
  • Is scalable and cost-effective.
  • Is in alignment with other regional and federal government initiatives.
