Benefits of Axia’s Approach

Our unique business model and proven approach focuses on end users and providing choice of services in the continually emerging independent IP service sector.

Axia provides Real Broadband™ IP services and solutions through planning, designing and operating Open Access Next Generation Networks. We lead by example having created the Alberta SuperNet, which we believe is the world’s best IP regional broadband network. We are now exporting our solution to France and other regions around the world.

Axia acts both as a technology integrator and market optimizer by focusing on end users and providing choice of services in the continually emerging independent IP service sector.  We connect multiple service providers to reach as many institutions, businesses and residents as possible.

Proven Business Model

Axia has demonstrated its ability to deliver extensive Real Broadband™ networks in both Canada and France. Through the Alberta SuperNet, Axia solved the Digital Divide that previously debilitated the rural areas of this Canadian province.  In France, we operate contracts for 13 regional networks across the country through Covage, a company jointly owned in a 50%-50% partnership with VINCI Networks.  Covage is creating competition which supports local access operators and Internet service providers as they deliver their IP services to administrative, business and retail customers.

Delivering Unlimited Access - Real Broadband™

Axia uses the term Real Broadband™ to describe uncompromised two-way digital connectivity.  Customers with Real Broadband™ access can choose any digital service from anyone else connected for an uncompromised performance experience. The demand that drives Axia’s opportunities is the demand of end users for uncompromised connectivity to the tools, resources and services for social and economic prosperity that can be available across the globe over broadband infrastructure.

Deploying Real Broadband™ vaults a jurisdiction into a global leadership position by providing a truly modern digital electronic communications infrastructure.

Un-Conflicted Open Access

Axia’s unique business model creates an un-conflicted, truly open infrastructure that is available to all parties at feasible bandwidth rates. Our approach to Open Access Networks focuses on the following:

  • Structural separation
Structural separation between the network operator and retail suppliers ensures no conflict in the value chain of retail services and provides for the best competition, choice and prices for the end customer.

In Axia’s experience, operational separation can never be enough to prevent an incumbent from leveraging their market position to the detriment of other providers.  The only effective approach to Open Access is to incorporate a specialty player in the value chain whose business model facilitates open competition in the retail and application sectors.
  • Operator of operators
As an “operator of operators,” Axia provides guaranteed connectivity on an equal basis to anyone connected to the network. We operate as an impartial, expert buyer or manager of network services on behalf of our customers, which ensures that competition results in the best service at the lowest cost for the end user.

  • Vibrant competition for Service Providers
Axia applies a standard, cost-effective rate for bandwidth – with no volume discounts or price breaks for multi-point connectivity.  Because of this, new local specialty network service providers can operate on an equal footing with larger existing providers.

Axia is motivated to encourage competition amongst Local Access and Application Service Providers and to assist them in being successful.  These parties are Axia’s customers, not our competitors. Established carriers and new specialty service providers alike have the same access to the network infrastructure – the same rate structure, same terms, same committed service levels.  Carriers are each equal beneficiaries of the low rate structure Axia applies and have the opportunity to compete in the marketplace on a level playing field.

Compelling Rate Structure

Axia’s compelling rate structure is a deliberate strategy to enable the lowest incremental price per Megabit per second (Mbps), promote higher customer demand for services, minimize administrative costs, enable competition and encourage new Service Providers – both for local access and applications.

Flexible Business Model

Axia takes a flexible commercial approach in how Open Access Networks are funded, and is open to adapting our model to meet any specific financial considerations that customers and jurisdictions may have.  We encourages the specialization of each Open Access Network and offer benchmarking rates as well as coverage and bandwidth that specifically suit the requirements of each region. Our solution offers the most vast network coverage for the best “value-for-money”, which can be further extended using our flexible business model.
